Astrea and the Dickinson Area Community Foundation want to help small, local businesses who were impacted by the COVID-19 closures. With your help, we want to raise $10,000 with another $10,000 to be matched by Astrea, a division of CCI Systems. We then want to distribute funds of $1,000 to 20 nominated businesses. You can help by making a donation of any size or by nominating a business you feel could benefit from receiving relief.

What is the Dickinson Area Community Foundation?
The Dickinson Area Community Foundation’s mission is to enhance the quality of life for all residents of Dickinson County, adjacent Michigan & Wisconsin communities, and the Forest Park/Crystal Falls communities. The Foundation provides leadership by attracting resources, managing endowments, serving donors, and distributing funds to meet changing community needs, now and in the future. Our areas of interest are education, the arts, health, social services, environment, recreation, community development, and the needs of the youth and the elderly. We have been serving our communities since 1995.
What is the Small Business Relief Program?
During the COVID-19 pandemic many business owners were forced to close their doors and drastically change their business models with the bar and restaurant industry taking particularly hard blows. Being a small-town internet provider, we saw many small businesses in our towns face financial struggles that they never had before with some of them even forced to close their doors forever. We know that even as restrictions are being lifted, small businesses still feel the financial hardship from mandated closures.
Our mission is simple.
We love our small towns, the people in them and the businesses that choose to operate and thrive there. We decided we wanted to help. Astrea has recently partnered with the Dickinson Area Community Foundation to fundraise for local businesses to receive some relief in wake of the closures.
Our mission is to raise $10,000 across communities and match $10,000 so we can provide 20 businesses with a $1,000 donation to help offset past debt incurred from being closed or to assist with their current operations.
How can you get involved?
Donors that want to support local businesses can get involve in two ways. You can make a donation of any size. Our goal to fundraise $10,000 can only become possible with the support of many small community members.
Donors, or any community members, can also get involved by nominating a local business they believe deserves to be awarded one of the donation amounts.

Your community needs your help.
One of the most endearing qualities about small-town living that often gets overlooked by people who’ve never lived in them is our endless capacity to support each other. This is never more evident when communities face challenges and hardships.
The COVID-19 pandemic has changed lives forever. It’s up to our communities to come together and do what they’ve always done best: raise each other up. Smile in the face of adversity and persevere. With Astrea and the Dickinson Area Community Foundation, we can make a difference and help our community businesses keep their doors open.
